THE UNFORSEEN CONSEQUENCES OF CONFISCATION !

GOOGLE- BVIANS EDGE -FOR EXCITING NEWS!
---------------------------------------------------
The confiscation of land with out compensation is abhorrent in the Western Civilized World, and rightly so!
It would seem as an extreme left-wing with in the African National Congress and sister party the EFF have exploited a weakness in the change over of power to Ramaphosa the new President as a sop for their votes that helped topple the former president Zuma.
The new president has done much in his short time in power to reverse the looting of the state coffers which has brought us to one notch above junk status. Moodys seems willing to give us the benefit of the doubt for at least the next six months and has even upgraded us to stable from likely down grade!
Ramaphosa latest move by replacing the revenue services head who was helping Zuma with state capture for his own ends. The revenue will recall former well educated persons and their independence will be restored.
One of the unforseen consequences of the land grab legislation which has not come into law yet and has to go thru two more stages where it is being vigouresly  opposed by opposition,is the largely unreported illegal occupation of so-called land farmers are letting lie fallow so as to preserve the ecology, by bus loads of obese, extreme  party supporters.Six police or so might turn up,then beat a hasty retreat when threatened.
Its not as if there is no land available as roughly three thousand farms were sold to the state at reasonable prices when the new constitution was adopted in 1994. They now are mostly in the hands of Zuma officials or lying dormant.
If it were not so sad it would be funny as these paid idle land invaders dwindle  noticably as the harsh conditions of being on farms without amenities is obviously not for the feint-hearted! Startling to see half built shacks completely only a a handful to claim squatter rights.Costs farmers a great deal to legally remove these.A great deal of intimindation towards the farmers, plus the locust mentality apply, they really do not want to farm, but are interested in making a quick buck !
According to these left-wingers,an unproved 70% of producing farms is still in "white hands  ! " In this number they include Europeans,Asians
and what they call sell-out blacks and companies belonging to all races. It would seem any body that bought the arable lands and cattle farming areas some times from the present government and are successful and pays 90% of the farming area tax are being targeted. If their move succeeds there will be starvation as witnessed in our neighboring country Zimbabwe.

THE NEXT PHASE IN METALS AND MINERALS USE Part 2 MINING MODERISATION

All systems are go to arrest the present decline in mining activity, and overcome the obstacles out there. The easy mining ore bodies are fast becoming the thing of the past.
Public and private companies, with workers are beginning to work together to preserve jobs, income and tax revenue.
Modernising and research into methods of refining especially in South Africa which has always been a world leader in this regard as during the last hundred years we were the world leaders in production of platinum group metals ,gold and diamonds. An added source of income is the production of equipment to further these activities now been developed.
These activities will lead to sustainability of the mining environment over the next half century.
Of great importance now is safety of workers at extreme depths in tunnels and difficult mining circumstances.
Remote control of machines will keep workers out of harms way for the most part in dangerous areas. Narrower machines are already working and more innovative ones are being built.
Backfill of pulverised rock now has many advantages as it stabilises the ground in worked out areas avoids unsightly heaps of  ground and in generally more environmentally friendly.
The greatest advances are continually been made in refining of complicated metals such as precious metals as well as more basic metals in seperation by using enzymes instead of the old methods such as sieves to seperate the various elements from the waste rocks. This also results in greater recoveries and more profits.
IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO ALSO READ PART 1  PUBLISHED IN SEPTEMBER ALSO THE STRIPPING OF RESOURCE ASSETS mentioned in the posts in the side-bar to get a continuity picture of the whole subject in South Africa.

Platinum Group Metals now and in the future

The longest strike in South African history, namely five months has come to an end. There were no winners as the workers will have to work up to five years to make up lost  pay under the no work no pay principle and the mines were brought to their knees as there was no spike in the platinum and other related metal prices.
The newest entry is always found at the bottom of the index above. The rest of this article is beneath Alerts and Notes.
ALERT 22/7/2014
It seems as if there is going to be an over supply of COAL in the not too distant future world wide. At the moment ,there is a shortage of coal at our electricity company ,namely ESCOM  perhaps not the time to rush into buying coal mining shares!

 ALERT 10/7/2014
Gold has made a comeback in the last couple of days, much against a the consensus that it will continue to wane. Nervousness about the future of stock markets as they have  out performed the actual recovery as well as slowing growth in Europe's main driver Germany as well as major trouble in Iraq, Syria, Ukraine and over production in China is unsettling the markets, also the firing of indiscriminate rockets into Israel from Gaza that can only be stopped by a ground invasion.

Despite the return to work and hefty increases for entry level miners (20% plus),the mines will not be able to carry as usual on if there is not a significant increase in metal prices soon ,an unlikely event ( Read the recent posts on the strikes as well to fully understand why)
A fact not often written about is that hungry striking miners on some mines opened old ventilation shafts and old entrances to tunnels and stripped the mines of miles of electrical copper cables and iron pipes to sell illegally on the black market to gain money to pay for food to survive the strikes as well. All will have to be replaced now at high prices before mining can safely commence again. Contractors are now being payed off which cause a ripple effect on the economy and as miners retire etc they are not being replaced.
A great deal has been written about mechanizing the mines. This is not always feasible for many of the mines as there narrow ore bodies very deep down. The most likely result is that most of the older mines will close down permanently.
Amplats and the other miners will also probably sell off the deeper mines and go for the opencast option ,as that is the only way they will be able to mechanise.
There is unlikely to be a strike on this scale in the future, which has almost forced our country back into a recession again. Since we pride ourselves on being democratic, the minister of mines is now mulling over legislation that will make it illegal to strike unless a strike ballot is held and sixty percent of the workers approve it. There after further supervised strike ballots must be held say every four weeks. Security will also be beefed up during such an action so as to allow non striking unions members to work with out the danger of being killed. This present strike was called by the union boss and then he used strong arm tactics to enforce it.
